MacGruber (2010) Filming Locations
The hilarious 2010 movie ‘MacGruber’ starring Will Forte & Kristen Wiig was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico on several filming locations around the city. In particular, the Rail Yards in Albuquerque has become a hotspot for movies lately and was a huge location for the MacGruber movie. The Rail Yards is also where Breaking Bad, The Avengers, and Terminiator Salvation was filmed at.
MacGruber, the fully-featured film which stars one of our favorite actors of all time Will Forte, was based off of the Saturday Night Live sketch MacGyver. The cult-classic film was released on May 21st, 2010 and gained notoriety instantaneously.
Location #1 – Rail Yards
The front cover of Breaking Bad where Walter White is sitting in his chair inside an abandoned building is also where MacGruber was filmed at in several scenes. This famous film location is in New Mexico.
Official Trailer for MacGruber
I fondly remember when this trailer was on TV and I was super excited for it as Will Forte is one of my favorite actors. The fact this movie was based off an SNL skit is amazing and add the fact that Will and Kristen Wiig were in it — this was a movie I had to see.
Location #2 – Convoy road
According to the site Female First, there are several locations in New Mexico including one located on the Zia Pueblo located North of Albuquerque. This gypsum mine location served as the scene where military transports were held up. The location scout did a tremendous job at replicating a Russian road in New Mexico.
