Overlook Hotel

The Stanley Hotel, located in Estes Park, Colorado, has become a cultural landmark due to its association with the horror classic film The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick. Although the hotel served as the inspiration for the fictional Overlook Hotel in the movie, the actual hotel featured in the film is the Timberline Lodge. Situated at 27500 E Timberline Road, Government Camp, OR 97028, the Timberline Lodge boasts a unique architecture and a rich history that have captured the attention of filmmakers and travelers alike.

As the setting for several iconic scenes in The Shining, including the exterior shots and the eerie interior shots of the hotel’s hallways, the Timberline Lodge has become a popular destination for fans of the movie. However, the lodge’s appeal extends far beyond its association with the horror genre. Built in the 1930s as part of a Works Progress Administration project, the lodge is a masterpiece of rustic architecture, featuring massive stone fireplaces, hand-carved wooden beams, and intricate ironwork.

Today, the Timberline Lodge continues to attract visitors from all over the world, offering a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and modern amenities. Whether you’re a film buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a memorable vacation experience, the Timberline Lodge is definitely worth a visit. MAP IT!!

Lloyd’s Bar

It’s interesting to note that one of the most iconic scenes in movie history, from “The Shining,” was actually filmed in Los Angeles, California. The famous Lloyd’s bar scenes, where Jack Torrance meets the ghostly bartender, were shot at the American Legion Hollywood Post 43. This historic location has been used in numerous films over the years, adding to the rich tapestry of Hollywood’s movie-making legacy. It’s fascinating to think about the behind-the-scenes details that go into creating these iconic movie moments, and how different locations can be transformed to transport viewers to entirely new worlds.
