Casablanca Filming Locations / Van Nuys, CA – Then and Now

Casablanca, the timeless classic released in 1943, was primarily filmed on a sound stage located at Warner Bros. studio in Burbank, California. However, the production crew also utilized a real-life hangar for the memorable scene featuring the arrival of Captain Strasser, portrayed by Conrad Veidt. This particular hangar was situated on Waterman Drive inside the Van Nuys Airport until a few years ago, when it was relocated to its permanent home.

Interestingly, the fate of this historic hangar was a subject of much speculation over the years. According to Beverly, it was believed that the structure had been demolished many years ago. However, the hangar was later purchased with the intent of restoring it to its former glory.

Today, visitors can even go to the exact spot where the hangar once stood, which was located on the south side of the slight bend on Waterman Drive. The rich history of Casablanca continues to capture the imagination of movie lovers around the world, and the iconic scenes shot on location remain an integral part of this cinematic masterpiece.
